There are numerous legal acts that a developer needs to be aware of, including but not limited to the Landlord-Tenant Act, the Condominium Act etc. As you engage with various phases of the development process you will find legal plays a role. Be sure to explore different contracts needed for a development project, including financing contracts, architects' contract, construction contracts, tenant contracts etc. There are also different types of construction contracts - how are they suited to different project types (lump sum, GMP, cost plus etc.). Here are areas you will want to explore:

  2. Alternative ownership models (co-ownership, co-op, etc)
  3. Legal components of development financing & structures
  4. Design & construction contracts (a brief overview of OAA & CCDC)
